Lowlight forges ahead, releasing their new EP, THEY KNOW, only 6 short months after their ambitious summer release, Strange Light. “We knew we wanted to approach it as a collaboration. What we didn’t know was all the growth that would come from it.” says Dana Sellers, specifically in reference to John Gleason joining the band in 2022.
It took 8 years for Lowlight to feel comfortable releasing a self-titled track. The song features Dana and Derril Sellers on lead vocals, a first for the group. “We were both really excited to step up to the plate on this one. When we first set out, it really felt like diving into new territory. We were not confident!” says Derril. “Now that we’ve taken the leap and come out the other side, we’re really proud of what we made.” The song has all the trappings of a ‘Lowlight Classic’ —from weaving music arrangements, to thoughtful, introspective lyrics. “We began to write the lyrics ourselves, and around that time, John joined the band. So, while he’s not featured on the track, he wrote many of the lyrics, and I in-turn wrote the melodies for and performed it. It was a true collaboration” says Dana.
lyrics
Time will mend
A heavy heart
But the darkest hours
Linger
Your hair
Blink
Behind your ears
Blink
Your arms
Blink
With hands held wide
I could just live in there.
Let’s just stop right there.
what we’ve created , can be erased
What we’ve loved, can be replaced
All our mistakes.
